BMX riders from across the State will soon be rolling to Rockhampton, in preparation for the 2022 Rocky Rumble.

Parks Sports and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the event is one Council is always incredibly proud to support.

“Each year, talented riders show off their skills on the BMX track and this event will certainly be no exception,” Cr Rutherford said.

“The Rocky Rumble is hosted by Rockhampton BMX Club, and annually welcomes hundreds of riders from around CQ and further to compete.

“It’s an event Council has long supported, and we look forward to welcoming it back to Hollingsworth Street 14-15 May this year.

Cr Rutherford said as part of preparations, the track will be closed from April 7.

“In order to ensure the track is in the very best condition for the event, it will be closed to the public for maintenance starting from next week,” Cr Rutherford said.

“This is to allow Rockhampton BMX to prepare the grounds, the amenities and the timing equipment required for the event.

“The club will be doing some very special works to harden the surface of the track.

“Therefore, only approved Rockhampton BMX Club bikes will be permitted to use the track in the lead up to the competition.

“For avid riders looking for an alternate venue during the track’s closure – be sure to try out the pump track at Cedric Archer Park, as well as the off road bike trails in Mount Morgan and Mount Archer.”
