Rockhampton Regional Council has welcomed delegates from across the country for the 2018 National Economic Development Conference NEDC.

The conference is the biggest forum for economic development practitioners across the country and allows delegates to share knowledge regarding latest trends and best practice in building prosperity among Australian communities.

Yesterday, delegates toured a range of local sites including the CQ Live Stock Exchange, Saleyards Distillery, Rockhampton Zoo and the Riverside Redevelopment to get a feel for the Region’s diverse economy and successful attractions.

Acting Mayor, Councillor Cherie Rutherford, said Council is proud to have attracted the national conference to Rockhampton, making it the first time it has ever been held in Queensland.

“It is a pleasure to welcome more than 100 economic development practitioners who have travelled from as far as Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales to be here,” Cr Rutherford said.

“This conference is a flagship event of Economic Development Australia which we are very fortunate to be hosting along with some incredible key-note speakers who make this years’ program one that we are all really looking forward to.

“Hosting the conference also gives us an opportunity to showcase the diversity of our Region and how Council is fostering innovation and technology to stimulate economic growth.”

Over the next two days, key-note speakers including Mark Bouris AM, Chris Helder, Dr Catherine Ball and Neil Glentworth will speak to delegates at the Pilbeam Theatre to deliver practical skills, advice, techniques and best practice case studies for business success.
