The Rockhampton Local Disaster Management Group is maintaining preparations as minor to moderate flooding continues in the Fitzroy River.

Based on current advice from the Bureau of Meteorology, the LDMG anticipates it will peak around 7.5 metres on Thursday morning, 22 January.

The Fitzroy River reached the minor flood level of 7 metres on Tuesday night, with the current height at 7.1 metres as of this morning.

Residents in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas are encouraged to review updated flood information and maps and take any necessary precautions.

Lakes Creek Road between Dean Street and Cooper Street is now closed to through traffic due to Fitzroy River flooding.

Signed access will remain available for local residents, with light vehicles detoured via Dean Street, Elphinstone Street, Rockonia Road and Cooper Street, and heavy vehicles redirected along the Bruce Highway, Fitzroy Street, Musgrave Street, Rockhampton–Yeppoon Road, Tanby Road and Rockhampton–Emu Park Road.

Rockhampton Regional Council crews are conducting hourly inspections of high risk local roads in anticipation of potential closures.

All road detours will stay in place until water levels recede, and the road can be safely reopened.

Council will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as changes occur.
