Arts projects receive funding

Successful applicants in the latest Regional Arts Development Fund (Rockhampton Region) round have been announced with projects including music, film, a comedy play text , printmaking workshops and visual art retail scholarship.

  • Rockhampton Symphony Orchestra will receive $4795 towards Orchestral Strings workshops culminating in a performance titled Symphony of Space, with a professional guest conductor.
  • Capricorn Film Festival will receive $8500 towards a film maker workshop and mentoring for emerging and practicing film artists in Rockhampton Region.
  • Arts Central Queensland will receive $7500 towards commissioning  a full length comedy play text by playwright Catie Fry, set on a CQ dairy farm.
  • Capricorn Printmakers will receive $3400 towards Printmakers workshops –titled Seduction of Collagraphs and Layered Printmaking.
  • Rockhampton Art Gallery will receive $2280 towards Emerging Retail Scholarship, an award program, designed to support emerging artists, creatives and makers take a leap into retail.

 RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Rockhampton Regional Council, supporting professional artists and arts practice in regional areas. It distributes approximately $60,000 of funding in Rockhampton Region each year.

Rockhampton Regional Council Community Services Spokesperson Cr Drew Wickerson said that there was a range of applications in the round.

"It’s great to see such a variety of applications from artists in Rockhampton Region. To me it reinforces the level of creativity in the region that our local artists continue to come up with such exciting projects, and Rockhampton Regional Council, along with the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, is very proud to be able to help make these happen,” he said.

Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said that the long standing RADF program would help to boost Queensland’s plan for economic recovery, supporting artists and arts workers with employment opportunities through $4.2 million in funding for regional cultural projects.

“The Palaszczuk Government is investing $2.08 million in RADF for 2020-21 and an additional $2.13 million will be contributed by 59 councils across Queensland,” Minister Enoch said.

 “Each year RADF showcases the extraordinary innovation of the arts and cultural sector in regional communities, delivers rich arts experiences and provides important professional opportunities for artists and arts workers.”
