Infrastructure upgrades at a major Rockhampton thoroughfare have improved safety and access for residents, school students and local businesses, thanks to $2 million from Council’s Capital Works Program.

The works in Park Avenue saw the reconstruction of Main and Haynes Streets with the installation of 380 metres of new stormwater pipes, as well as placing 3800 square metres of new asphalt surfacing.

The project, which started in September 2025 and is now complete, has improved the busy local precinct near St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, St Joseph’s Church, and surrounding businesses.

Rockhampton Regional Council Mayor Tony Williams said this project is one of many being delivered under Council’s Capital Works Program, aimed at building a safer, more resilient and connected road network.

“It’s great to see local projects and programs that make a real difference in people’s lives.

“These works improve local roads, making them safer, more efficient and better for local residents and business.

“It also helps ensure our growing region has the infrastructure it needs now and into the future.”

Infrastructure and Divisional Councillor Marika Taylor said it was great to see the works reach completion.

“Projects like this show Council’s dedication to not only improving the safety of residents and visitors to our region, but also ensuring the longevity of our critical infrastructure,” Cr Taylor said.

“We’ve upgraded stormwater drainage to reduce pooling and erosion, replaced kerb and guttering and a water main, and laid new asphalt and line marking to improve the road surface.

“Thanks to these works, the journey to school has been made safer for families, with upgraded footpaths and pedestrian crossings.”
