Packed Program of School Holiday Arts and Culture Fun

Rockhampton Regional Council is inviting families to make the most of the September school holidays, with a diverse program of arts, culture, creativity and family-friendly activities on offer across some of the region’s major cultural venues.
From vintage games and animal experiences at Rockhampton Heritage Village to circus workshops, imaginative theatre and hands-on art activities, there is something to entertain children of all ages throughout the holiday period.
Rockhampton Regional Council Communities, Culture and Heritage Spokesperson Councillor Drew Wickerson said Council's major venues were coming alive with a range of engaging activities designed to inspire creativity, learning and fun.
"Our cultural venues offer so much more than great entertainment. They are places where families can connect, learn new skills, explore their creativity and make lasting memories together," Cr Wickerson said.
"These school holidays, we're proud to present activities and performances that cater to a wide range of interests, from history and heritage through to circus arts, theatre and visual arts."
"Whether you're feeding animals at the Heritage Village, trying your hand at circus skills, enjoying a live performance at the theatre or getting creative at the Rockhampton Museum of Art, there's an opportunity for every child to discover something new."

Step Back in Time at Rockhampton Heritage Village
Families can enjoy a morning of outdoor adventure at the Rockhampton Heritage Village on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the school holidays from 9am to 11am.
Visitors can experience vintage car rides, animal feeding opportunities, old-fashioned games and live heritage demonstrations while exploring the Village's historic streets and buildings.
Entry is just $6 per person and includes all activities and rides. Enclosed shoes are a must!
Learn New Skills with Flipside Circus
Young performers can build confidence and learn exciting new skills when Flipside Circus returns to Rockhampton from 20 to 23 September.
Hosted at the Rockhampton Showgrounds' Robert Schwarten Pavilion, the workshops offer opportunities for children and young people to experience juggling, hula-hoop, tumbling, acro-balance, trapeze and more under the guidance of expert trainers.
Programs are available for a range of ages and skill levels, including Kindy Camp sessions for children aged two to four years, Circus Foundations for beginners and Intermediate and Advanced workshops for experienced participants.

Imagination Takes Centre Stage with The Librarian
The Walter Reid Cultural Centre will host the internationally acclaimed family show The Librarian on 26 and 27 September.
Presented by Canadian company Le Gros Orteil, the production combines clowning, physical theatre and circus arts in a whimsical adventure that celebrates the joy of reading and the power of imagination.
Perfect for young audiences, the performance follows an orderly librarian whose books transport him into extraordinary worlds filled with acrobatics, juggling, break dancing and unexpected surprises.

Get Creative at Rockhampton Museum of Art
Children can also enjoy free drop-in activities at Rockhampton Museum of Art from 20 September to 5 October as part of the exhibition Too Deadly: Ten Years of Tarnanthi.
Running daily from 9.30am to 12.30pm, the activities invite young artists to explore the work of First Nations artists John Prince Siddon (Walmajarri people, WA) and Reko Rennie (Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay/Gummaroi people, NSW) through drawing and magic paper clay projects.
The activities are presented through the Art Gallery of South Australia's Make and Create program and are free for visitors.
Cr Wickerson said the broad range of activities showcased the strength of Rockhampton's arts and cultural offering.
"We're fortunate to have outstanding cultural venues throughout our region, and these school holidays are the perfect time for families to experience everything they have to offer," he said.
