Do you know a dedicated local who goes above and beyond in our community?

Rockhampton Regional Council is calling on the community to help identify and celebrate the region’s unsung heroes in the 2024 Australia Day Awards.

Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said it’s a wonderful way to thank residents for their continuous dedication.

“Our region is filled with residents who consistently contribute their time and effort to local clubs, events, projects and fundraisers,” Cr Wickerson said.

“Many of these community champions are quiet achievers flying under the radar, so the Australia Day Awards are a great way to bring their invaluable efforts to light.

“We are encouraging everyone to nominate someone in our community who inspires them – they may be an athlete, an artist, a dedicated volunteer, or even a local group.”

Councillor Cherie Rutherford, a seasoned judging panel member, said submitting a nomination is easier than many expect.

“It’s really easy to make a submission especially with our online fillable forms,” Cr Rutherford said.

“It doesn’t take long to complete as there are very few questions, and we don’t ask for lengthy responses.

“Often, a winning submission is a heartfelt paragraph or two about the nominee and what they do for the community.”

The 2024 Australia Day Award categories are:

  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Sports Official of the Year
