Next chapter of Main Street upgrades to begin

Works are about to begin on the next phase of Rockhampton Regional Council's upgrades to Main Street in Park Avenue, improving drainage, footpaths and road conditions in the area.

The upgrades include 75 metres of new stormwater pipes, resurfaced roads, upgraded footpaths and new kerb and channel infrastructure along Main Street and Lloyd Street.

Infrastructure and Divisional Councillor Marika Taylor said the project would continue to support the growth and longevity of the area's road network.

“We know Park Avenue is a busy suburb, with hundreds of vehicles using Main Street each day to get to school and work,” Cr Taylor said.

“The road and stormwater infrastructure along Main Street is ageing, so it's important for us to invest in upgrades like this now to support our growing community and ensure the durability and safety of our roads.”

The next phase of the Main Street upgrades comes after Council completed $2 million worth of works on the busy road, including upgrades to Haynes Street, in April earlier this year.

Works will begin on Friday, 18 September, and are expected to be completed by March 2027, weather and ground conditions permitting.

“To ensure these upgrades are delivered to a high standard, they will take time,” Cr Taylor said.

“We appreciate the community's patience and ask motorists and residents to obey all signage in the area while these critical works are underway.”
