Students have hit the ground running this school term, and for Saint Anthony’s School a brand new footpath is making this even easier.

The students can now enjoy a new path connecting the grounds to the existing pedestrian crossing on Moores Creek Road.

Infrastructure Councillor Ellen Smith said the new path is thanks to the Queensland Government’s School Transport Infrastructure Program.

“We see safe school zones as imperative, so I would like to thank the Queensland Government for funding the $56,000 project to make this footpath possible,” Cr Smith said.

“The School Transport Infrastructure Program helps improve safety and operations at schools through new or improved infrastructure, like the footpath on Bruigom Street.

“Programs such as this are really important for the youth of today to ensure their safety while getting to and from school.

“We know that a number of students go to the day care on the corner of Moores Creek Road and Bruigom Street for before and after school care, so the upgrades mean these students will have a safe passage from the school to the day care.

“And if you don’t use this path yourself – we’re currently working on a region-wide Cycling and Walking Strategy to guide where future paths will go, so keep an eye open for upcoming projects in your area.”

Divisional Councillor Shane Latcham said the improvements will be a welcome addition for the community.

“The new footpath will be a great addition for students walking and riding to school, as well as parents, staff and the local community,” Cr Latcham said.

“The new 1.5 metre path means better accessibility for all community members, which is something we’re focused on improving at Council.

“It’s little projects like this that make a big difference to our local community.”
