Rockhampton Regional Council has finalised the upgrade of the old Nature Play equipment and timber stepping stumps at Kershaw Gardens.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the installation of brand new play equipment is an exciting addition to the popular Kershaw Gardens.

“It is great to see this new equipment, with one of the playground pieces actually being one of the first of its kind in Australia, adding to the Kershaw Gardens uniqueness,” Cr Rutherford said.

“The Kershaw Gardens continue to be an asset to the Rockhampton Region and the installation of the new equipment has contributed to the overall experience of this popular community facility.

“This is a loved section of the park, and the equipment upgrade has put many more smiles on the faces of families and children in the community since its completion.

“The removal, preparation and installation of the equipment had minimal impacts on the community, with the barricaded areas removed and the playground fully back in action.

“The equipment upgrade and works were essential due to the old play equipment manufacturer ceasing production of parts and equipment.

“Replacement of the old equipment was necessary to ensure continued safety of those accessing the playground.

“The project has been solely funded by the Rockhampton Regional Council and is estimated at around $70,000 for removal, disposal and installation of the new equipment.”
