Mount Morgan set to advance
Published on 07 November 2019
The historic township of Mount Morgan is firmly in everyone’s sights, with Rockhampton Regional Council this week endorsing the final Advancing Mount Morgan Strategy.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said we all know how much this town has to offer, and how much it has contributed to the historic wealth of our Region.
“We are proud to endorse this strategy, which is designed to support business, create opportunities for employment and education, and unlock the tourism potential of Mount Morgan’s multiple natural and historic assets,” said Mayor Strelow.
“I thank the Mount Morgan community for working closely with us to develop this strategy.
“The strategy grew from a Mayoral Minute that was enthusiastically and unanimously taken up by Council. We held our first community roundtable to discuss the future of Mount Morgan in November 2018 and followed with additional meetings and small group discussions.
“At that roundtable, and in the year since, many incredibly passionate people have shared with us the hopes and ambitions they have for their community, which we have channelled into this strategy.
“The recent formal consultation period for the draft Strategy showed that we have managed to capture the essence of the dreams that the Mount Morgan community have for their own future.
“Now, we can focus on delivering this shared vision and shaping Mount Morgan into a vibrant community filled with opportunity.
“There are some big ideas in this strategy which we are looking forward to seeing to realisation.
“We have already begun work on some of the projects highlighted in this strategy, including the Fish Habitat Rehabilitation Program, the Mountain Bike Project and reopening the Fireclay Caverns.
“The process of developing this strategy has been so successful that we have recently begun applying the same model to the development of a strategy for Growing Gracemere.
“We’ll be holding our first Gracemere Roundtable on Tuesday 12 November, and we encourage anyone with an opinion about the future of the town to come along and have their voices heard.”
