Art Gallery staff will receive additional training and support thanks to a Public Galleries Queensland bursary, as Rockhampton Regional Council continue to make preparations for the new art gallery.

Public Galleries Queensland, which offers grants to assist public galleries to undertake major organisational initiatives, has provided $1,500 to help staff increase their knowledge of preservation and conservation.

Communities Chair, Cr Rose Swadling, said it was great to see the planned new gallery receiving even more support.

“We are very grateful to Public Galleries Queensland for this bursary.

“While we wait on what we hope will be good news from the Australian Government regarding a financial contribution to the gallery, Council is committed to making sure we are ready to go.

“That means having the design finished and the EOI out, but it also means supporting our staff ahead of what will be a major organisational change.

“This money will fund a paintings conservator to come to our region to train and up skill staff in the areas of preventative conservation and object handling.

“This specialist knowledge will ensure the region’s impressive and significant collection is professionally prepared and safely transported to its new home, where it will finally be on display for all to enjoy.”

Rockhampton Art Gallery is owned and operated by Rockhampton Regional Council.
