Rockhampton Regional Council is excited to see the well-deserved lighting upgrade to the McLeod Park field complete.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the upgrade kicked off in September last year with the new lights getting switched on this week.

“This upgrade provides Council with greater flexibility to manage its sporting fields and assets,” Councillor Rutherford said.

“McLeod Park is a great place for local residents and also plays an important role in providing additional fields for local sporting groups to train and play while their home fields are upgraded or maintained.

“This may involve training at night and evening matches for sporting groups, which makes it an even more valuable asset to our community.

“Works included numerous electrical upgrades including new underground conduit, cabling, and the installation of new LED lamps.

“The decision to undertake this project came as the existing lighting infrastructure at McLeod Park had reached the end of its life span.”

Divisional Councillor Grant Mathers said it was great to see the project completed.

“McLeod Park has long been a heavily used park, cherished by residents and sporting groups for its versatility and centralised location,” Cr Mathers said.

“The lights will see that the park remains a safe and welcoming space for those sporting groups who book the fields in the evenings.
