Kershaw cake wows crowds

Kershaw Cake

A spectacular cake impressed thousands of revellers at the reopening of the Kershaw Playground over the weekend.

The cake, made by Councillor Drew Wickerson, was a metre squared and weighed over 60 kilos in all.

“I wanted to mix the iconic features of the old gardens like the waterfall and the sensory gardens, with the amazing new facilities including Wyatt’s Wonder Web and the stunning leaf statues at the park’s entrance,” Cr Wickerson said.

“It’s made up of chocolate mud cakes, fruit cakes, and probably about 20 kilos of icing! I had to finish the assembly on site on Saturday morning – it would have been too heavy to transport otherwise.

“It really was a labour of love. I spent probably three days on it, and was so pleased with the result.

“The most important verdict though belonged to those at the party on Saturday. Given that there are only a few crumbs left, I think we can safely say it was a hit!”
