Rockhampton Regional Council’s bold and ambitious plan to increase Central Queensland’s share of the International Education Sector has taken a key step forward today.

Council, with funding support from Trade and Investment Queensland, is this week hosting 14 international education agents to showcase the education opportunities available in the region to overseas students looking to study in Australia.

General Manager of Advance Rockhampton Tony Cullen said rapid growth in the sector meant it was the perfect time to bring Rockhampton into focus.

“The international education sector grew by 14 per cent in Queensland last financial year to be worth more than $4.1 billion -  Rockhampton’s share of that was about $9 million,” Mr Cullen said.

“With our strengths – CQ University, well-developed public, private and boarding school systems and a way of life which blends the best of country living with city life – we are well positioned to increase our share of international students.

“This is one of Advance Rockhampton’s key pillars of economic growth for our region and we are aggressively looking for opportunities such as these to ensure the future success of our region,” Mr Cullen said.

Senior Executive of Trade and Investment Young Beamish said the familiarisation tour this week will showcase exactly what Rockhampton has to offer.

“Our world-class education institutes will obviously take centre stage but this tour is about so much more than that,” Ms Beamish said.

“It’s about showcasing our way of life here in regional Queensland because we know that one of things international students want from studying here is an authentic Australian experience.

“Rockhampton has the absolute advantage in that area with our enviable lifestyle and we are really looking forward to showing off our home over the coming days,” Ms Beamish said.
