Ian Weigh Toyota Rockhampton Pro Am the perfect place to tee off
Published on 26 June 2025
The Ian Weigh Toyota Rockhampton Pro Am has proven the perfect place for touring pros to tee off, with the award-winning tournament, from 3 to 5 July, fully booked by professionals eager to experience the premier course and the region’s glorious ‘winter’ weather.
Rockhampton Regional Council Communities Culture and Heritage Councillor and Deputy Mayor Drew Wickerson said it was great to see so many touring professionals returning again in 2025 due to their love of the course, and Rockhampton.
“The Pro Am attracts golfers from around Australia and we congratulate the Rockhampton Golf Club on staging an event that is so highly sought after on the professional touring calendar,’ Cr Wickerson said.
“Council has been very pleased to join with local businesses such as Ian Weigh Toyota to sponsor this important event for the region year after year, and we have again in 2025 with $5000.
“The flow-on impact on our local accommodation and hospitality providers and the word-of-mouth of these professionals, who go back to their home towns and tell their families and friends about our region, is significant.
The Rockhampton Golf Club is a picturesque course bordering the Murray Lagoon and features a great balance of holes ranging from relatively easy to very difficult, ensuring plenty of excitement for spectators.
“Entry is free and we encourage community members, particularly keen golfers, to head down to the Golf Club during the tournament to watch professional golf right here at home, and join in the Pro Am entertainment and celebrations,” Cr Wickerson said.
“We want to highlight that the financial assistance the Rockhampton Golf Pro Am received in 2025 from Council, is support that many other Clubs and not-for-profit groups can certainly take advantage of.
“Round 1 for 2025-2026 of our Community Assistance Program is open for applications, and closes on Friday 10 July.
“It’s not too late to apply, so head to our website and discover how Council can help your group to stage a successful event that adds to the vibrancy and appeal of our region.”
Rockhampton Golf Club President Matt Sleaford said the club was grateful for the support of Council.
“Council’s contribution helps us present the course in the best possible condition so visiting pros take away a great golfing experience that they share with their communities to help put Rocky on the golfing map,” Mr Sleaford said.
The three-day Pro Am event has a prize pool of more than $60,000 and is certainly a professional tournament in demand.
“In fact, this year year we have had 120 expressions of interest from professional golfers, for just 80 positions in the field,” Mr Sleaford said.
“The touring pros love coming to Rockhampton and not just for our brilliant winter weather – they always praise the quality of the golf course and the hospitality provided by the Club and the Rocky community.
“There’s no other sport where spectators can get so close to the action and watch elite athletes show their skills from just a few metres away.
“And the order of holes is changed just for the Pro Am each year, so that the finishing hole is directly in front of the Tournament marquee restaurant and bar.
“It creates a fun and exciting atmosphere for players and spectators alike.
“Saturday’s presentation night will feature live music and a party atmosphere at the marquee restaurant and bar - it’s a great celebration and we encourage the community to join the fun.”
