With the easing of COVID19 restrictions and day-to-day life slowly returning to normal, Council is excited to announce that the traditional in-person ANZAC Day commemorations will occur again this year.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said that in line with other commemorations to be held across the country on 25 April, we are looking forward to recognising this day in the way it deserves.

“Local residents throughout the Region will have a number of events that they can attend,” Mayor Williams said.

“Rockhampton, Gracemere, Mount Morgan, Westwood, Bouldercombe, Marmor and Alton Downs will be hosting services, with marches also taking place in Rockhampton, Gracemere and Mount Morgan.

“The C.Q Military Museum will again be hosting breakfast and other activities from 5am on the day.

"On Friday, 22 April, there will also be a service commencing at 10.30am at Stenhouse Park, Lakes Creek Road, Koongal.

“Full details can be found on our website of all events taking place both on the day and in the week of.

“The range of events is testament to just how much our community values the sacrifices made by our armed forces, whether they served 100 years ago or are on active duty today.

Chair of the Rockhampton ANZAC Day Committee Councillor Drew Wickerson said a special thanks goes to event organisers.

“It’s wonderful to see in-person events back in our community, particularly events that help honour and thank our nation’s veterans,” Cr Wickerson said.

“We wanted to let the community know what events were happening early this year to allow time to organise and arrange logistics.

“Remember to check parking availability and road closures prior to leaving your home - you can find this information on Council’s website.

“25 April is a day to show our respect and honour our nation’s veterans. I encourage everyone to attend a local service or event near you.”
