Rockhampton Regional Council is asking for the community’s help in naming the new park currently under construction in Norman Gardens.

Divisional Councillor Shane Latcham said the park, located on Springfield Drive, will feature a ninja-themed playground, shaded seating and picnic facilities along with fresh landscaping.

“While the new space is scheduled to be completed by July this year, Council is taking name suggestions from Rockhampton residents via its Engage Rockhampton website,” Cr Latcham said.

“This is an exciting opportunity for residents to get creative and perhaps play a part in our region’s history by suggesting the name that Council might ultimately choose.”

For suggestions to be considered by Council, it must align with its Naming of Parks, Reserves and Sport Facilities Policy, which requires the name to reflect one of the following:

•           Local geography or natural features

•           Aboriginal heritage (with appropriate consultation)

•           Local history or cultural significance

•           Notable individuals, organisations, or sporting achievements

Names should be respectful, unique, and appropriate to the character of the area.

Personal names are generally only considered posthumously unless there is strong community support.

Submissions are open until midnight Wednesday, 25 June 2025, with Council to decide after a review of the appropriate suggestions.
