Rockhampton Regional Libraries invite you to join in the celebrations as the North Rockhampton (Northside) Library reaches the big 5-0 milestone next month.

Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said following its official opening on Friday 26 November 1971, the Northside Library welcomed over 500 member registrations and 1830 loans in the first three days.

“The Library was welcomed with open arms, and since then it has been an integral part of the Northside community,” Cr Wickerson said.

“From its early days housing an impressive children’s collection, Special Activity and Toy Library, Special Needs Computer Club and a range of resources to suit a diverse clientele, the library has continued to adapt to changing interests and needs of the community.

“Today, the library is still humming with activity, with over 5000 members and 2100 visits every month!

“We’d love for you to come in for a visit and take a walk down memory lane with us.

“Throughout November, there will be a memory board on display, with photos, historical information and fun facts about the library.

“Here you can add your own memories and experiences of the library on our ‘Dear Northside Library’ postcards.

“And while it’s our birthday, the gifts are on us, with some great prize draws throughout the month.

“See staff to go in the draw when you visit the Northside library anytime from Saturday 30 October.

“The weekly prizes include $50 gift vouchers, while the grand prize is 4 x$50 vouchers that will be drawn on Friday 26 November - the library’s official birthday!

“All weekly entries will automatically go into the major draw so, who knows, you may win twice!

“Why not drop into Northside Library in November to say hello, write your postcard - help us celebrate the last 50 years and usher in the next 50!”
