Calling all collectors and bargain hunters! The 2019 Rocky Swap event is set to hit the Showgrounds tomorrow, so get ready to pick up your new favourite treasure.

Chair of Council’s Community Services Committee Councillor Rose Swadling said that the one day event is expected to draw thousands of people.

“Rockhampton Regional Council has provided $20,000 toward the cost of hosting the event through our Community Assistance Program, and we are very proud to be one of the major sponsors,” said Cr Swadling.

“The Rocky Swap started in 1997, and has grown into one of the biggest swap events in Australia.

“There will be more than 1100 stallholders this year, and treasure hunters traveling in from across the Region, State, and Country will be ready to hit the stalls when gates open at 6am.

“This is a wonderful community event for all ages operated by the Rocky North Rotary in partnership with the CQ All Classic Car Club, and the funds raised from the event go back into the community through the generosity of these two clubs.”

Chair of Council’s Waste Committee Councillor Neil Fisher said the event helps promote the message to reuse items rather than send them to landfill.

“Each year the Rocky Swap sees thousands of pre-loved items upcycled and reused,” said Cr Fisher.

“That’s thousands of items that get a second life with new owners, rather than ending up as waste.

“Council will also be providing waste collection services for the event, including dedicated recycling bins with lids designed to prevent contamination, and we’ll be collecting cardboard packaging separately for recycling.”

The Rocky Swap will be held from 6am to 4pm on Saturday 2 August at the Rockhampton Showgrounds. The entry fee for Adults is $6, and $2 for children up to age 12.

The Rocky Swap is run jointly by North Rockhampton Rotary Club and All Classic Motor Club of Central Queensland.
