Be sure to visit the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens this Sunday, 28 May for a plant sale and free walking tours to celebrate Botanic Gardens Day.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said Botanic Gardens Day was the perfect opportunity for the community to join together in our picturesque gardens.

“Rockhampton Botanic Gardens is one of the oldest and most established public gardens in Queensland. The site has been heritage listed since 1999 and is home to The Central Queensland War Memorial (The Cenotaph),” Cr Rutherford said.

“We are very lucky to have such significant gardens right here in Rockhampton, and there’s no better time than Sunday to enjoy them.

“To help celebrate Botanic Gardens Day on Sunday, our wonderful Friends of the Gardens will be hosting a cash-only plant sale from 10am-2pm in the Glass House, next to the Spencer Street roundabout.

“All proceeds will go towards the Friends of the Gardens fundraising efforts to help maintain our region's beautiful gardens.

“We will also be hosting a local tour operator who will be providing free walking tours of the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens for the community to enjoy on Sunday.

“The tours will depart from the Information Centre by the Glass House at 9.30am, 12pm and 2.30pm, dependant on demand.

“With a brand-new playground for the kids to enjoy and BBQ facilities, the gardens truly are the place to be this Sunday in celebration Botanic Gardens Day.

Botanic Gardens Day is an annual day of celebration to highlight the role of plants in our lives and the important work botanic gardens undertake every day to conserve them for future generations.
