Residents across Rockhampton Region will be able to spend all of Australia Day at different events thanks to Rockhampton Regional Council, community groups, and Queensland Government’s Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Acting Mayor, Cr Cherie Rutherford, said she was delighted there were so many options on offer.

“Through a combination of a $15,000 Council grant for community events and funding from the Queensland Government for Great Australian Bites, residents will be able to spend their whole Australia Day enjoying events right across our Region.

“You can start off your day with breakfast and face painting at Cedric Archer Park thanks to the Gracemere Lion’s Club, before heading up to the Mt Morgan Rotary Club event at the dam for a BBQ, ice cream, and free amusement rides for children.

“Spend your afternoon in Upper Ulam Recreation Grounds in Bajool where there will be a water slide, jumping castle, and canteen.

“Finish your day down at the riverbank, listening to home grown music and feasting at pop up restaurants. We are so pleased that Rockhampton has been chosen as one of the four locations in Queensland awarded $18,000 to throw a Great Australian Bites celebration.

“Starting at 4.30pm, Jess and Tim from Hit 107.9 will guide you through an evening packed with entertainment. There will be performances from Olivia Ruth and Tony Cook, as well as sausage roll eating and thong throwing competitions, bush survival skills, Australian trivia, bucking bull championships and a tug of war.

“The celebrations will even extend into the weekend, with performances from the Kangagang at the Heritage Village Markets on Sunday.”
