Father’s Day Plant Sale on this Saturday

The Friends of the Gardens are hosting a plant sale at the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens this Saturday morning, offering locals the chance to find the perfect gift for Father’s Day.
Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford encouraged the community to head along and support the local volunteer group behind the event.
“This Father’s Day, why not surprise the father figures in your life with a gift that’s green and growing?” Cr Rutherford said.
“The event offers a perfect opportunity to find a thoughtful present, while supporting the volunteers who help keep our gardens thriving.”
Cr Rutherford said all proceeds from the sale will go directly to the volunteer group and help fund their ongoing work at the Botanic and Kershaw Gardens.
“We’re incredibly lucky to have such a passionate group of volunteers who dedicate their time to these spaces each and every week, and supporting the plant sale is a wonderful way to show appreciation for all that they do,” Cr Rutherford said.
Friends of the Gardens volunteer Linda Broun said the group is looking forward to welcoming the community on Saturday.
“You can expect the glasshouse to be choc-a-bloc with hundreds of plants, including a wide range of shrubs, trees, succulents, flowers, and bucketloads of bromeliads,” Mrs Broun said.
“Spring is the perfect time for growing - the weather’s warming up and everything’s ready to flourish.”
Mrs Broun, who has been volunteering at the Botanic Gardens weekly for over 25 years, said the plant sale is also a great chance to learn more about the group.
“We are always eager to welcome new members and encourage anyone interested to come and have a chat,” Mrs Broun said.
“We all come from different walks of life but all love gardening, and when you are a gardener and you love the Gardens like we do, it’s not work, it’s pleasure.
“It’s also a great chance to mingle and share some time with the friends group.”
