Errol the frog had a hopping good time

The First 5 Forever (F5F) mascot, Errol the frog, popped up around the region over the last few months - on the back of buses, on your radio and on billboards - to help to spread literacy love.
Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said Errol’s appearances were a part of the F5F program that encourages early learning.
“First 5 Forever is an initiative of the Queensland Government and is coordinated by the State Library of Queensland in partnership with Rockhampton Regional Council,” Cr Wickerson said.
“It aims to provide strong early literacy foundations for children aged 0-5 years and offers a range of activities, books and other resources for the community, all completely free.
“F5F is something Council is proud to offer at Rockhampton Regional Libraries and Errol’s movements around the region helped increase the sign-up of new junior memberships by more than 50% over the last six months.
“In addition to spreading early learning love, we have revamped our Kids Cove area at the Southside Library, thanks to grant funding from State Library of Queensland.
"Our Kids Cove is a dedicated space for kids to read, talk, sing and play, and needed a refresh.
“The revamp saw the installation of more storage, new cabinets, additional colourful furniture and playthings, and a fresh coat of paint.
“The upgrade transformed the Cove into a fun, colourful, multifunctioning space for kids to grow their love of literacy.
“Caregivers and kids can utilise this area as much as they like when the Southside Library is open. They can also attend the regular F5F Read’n’Rhyme sessions for children aged 0-5 at any of the library branches.
"The weekly F5F Read’n’Rhyme sessions are beneficial for children’s development and help lay the foundations of early learning.
“I encourage you to pop into Southside Library and check out the Kids Cove or attend a session at your local library.
“If you are not a member already be sure to sign up. Membership is free and children under 5 receive a bag of goodies, including a free book, to start them on their literacy journey.”
