Rockhampton Regional Council is calling on residents to get involved with community planting sessions taking place in Gracemere on Sunday 27 July.

Environmental Sustainability Councillor Elliot Hilse said National Tree Day is a great opportunity for our community to connect through environmental stewardship and you can register now to join a planting site.

“The community planting sessions are located in Touch of Paradise, located adjacent to Cedric Archer Park, so we encourage you to come along, put down some roots and why not make a day of it and pack a picnic for the park afterwards,” Cr Hilse said.

“The statistics are quite exciting when you consider that over 28 millions trees have been planted nationwide since 1996 by more than five million volunteers.

“Rockhampton Regional Council has been involved with National Tree Day since it started, and we’re excited to be hosting community planting sessions at Touch of Paradise, Cedric Archer Park, Gracemere in 2025.

“We’re also committed to increasing canopy cover throughout the Region, with our Parks team planting semi-advanced trees at Cedric Archer Park in preparation for National Tree Day.

“Adding 600 native plants on National Tree Day with the community will be a welcome addition, increasing shade and habitat as they grow over time.

“Participants on the day can also take home a native plant to enhance their garden at home.

“There are three planting sessions to choose from – 8am, 9am and 10am – so head over to the National Tree Day website and register for your preferred time.”

Participants are asked to wear sun smart clothing, including a hat, covered shoes and bring a water bottle.  Gloves, tools and equipment for planting will be provided on the day.

“Whether you’re a past participant or newcomer, keen gardener or novice, please come and join in on a great morning out at Gracemere.

“It’s also a great opportunity to chat to our Parks and Sustainability staff about plants suited to our region, with hardy natives chosen for the planting sessions.

“There is a wonderful sense of community connection, environmental stewardship and wellbeing about these events so we encourage people to get involved.”

The community planting session will take place at Touch of Paradise, Ian Besch Drive, Gracemere on Sunday 27 July.
