Emma Watkins, everyone’s favourite twirling ballerina, has twirled her way into Rockhampton today as part of a promotional tour ahead of her show at the Pilbeam Theatre on Tuesday 8 August, 2023.

Emma Memma’s ‘Twirly Tour’ is making its way to Rockhampton in August, and Advance Rockhampton’s tourism unit, Explore Rockhampton, took the opportunity to show Emma and husband Olly some of the spectacular sights of our region, including an adorable up-close encounter with our mob of mischievous meerkats at the Rockhampton Zoo.

Emma and Olly had the opportunity to be entertained themselves by the mob of six as they climbed and tumbled all over the celebrity duo.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said it is such a pleasure to welcome famous faces to experience these amazing tourism experiences we have in our region.

“Showcasing our beautiful zoo to the world puts Rockhampton on the radar for visitors looking for an authentic experience with plenty to see and do, something we are proud to offer visitors to Rockhampton,” Councillor Rutherford said.

“With the recent release of our Amazing Animals Queensland Monopoly game, our Junior Zookeeper Experiences, Otter Encounters, Snake Encounters and of course our always popular Meerkat Encounters, there is a lot happening at Rockhampton Zoo and only more great things to come.”

Advance Rockhampton Acting Executive Manager Zac Garven said that with 2023 being the Year of Accessible Tourism, it is important to consider accessibility in everything that we do, and what better way than to promote two of our wheelchair accessible experiences, the Meerkat Encounter and the Pilbeam Theatre.

“Emma’s tour is about empowering the next generation through movement, creativity and inclusiveness with sign language being a prominent part of her show,” Mr Garven said.

“It is fantastic to have someone like Emma in our region passing on her values to our younger generation, and also promoting our wonderful tourism experiences far and wide.”
