Emergency Services Open Day just around the corner

The region’s Emergency Services will be on full display this weekend with the annual Open Day once again being held at the Heritage Village.

Attracting thousands of people each year, the Open Day showcases the equipment and resources used by various emergency services with demonstrations and stalls on display.

Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group, Councillor Tony Williams, encouraged residents to get along and support the event.

“The general public rarely gets a chance to interact with our emergency services and if they do, it’s generally not under the best of circumstances,” Cr Williams said.

“The Open Day is a chance to meet the crews face-to-face and learn a little about their day-to-day lives while seeing what resources they use to keep us safe.

“There’ll be everything on the day from helicopters to harnesses as well as a few extra surprises.

“On top of that there’ll be stalls, rides and plenty of activities for the kids so not only is it a great day out but it’s also a fantastic way of educating the community.

“There really will be something for everyone so make sure you head along and check it out for yourselves – what you learn on the day might come in handy down the track,” Cr Williams said.

The event will be held on Sunday, 30 July from 9am – 2pm at the Rockhampton Heritage Village.
