Rockhampton Regional Council are excited to announce that permit applications to operate E-Scooters in Rockhampton will open on Thursday 16th December.

This follows the Expression of Interest documents released in April this year which generated interest from six operators who manage E-scooter fleets locally in Australia and around the world. One operator is to be awarded a 12 month trial to operate in the River City.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said it’s great to see this project come to fruition and see E-Scooters take to the streets in 2022.

“We are looking forward to collaborating with the selected operator to make it easier for residents and visitors to get around and see more of the sights Rockhampton has to offer and, for commuters, it gives them another public transport option,” said Mayor Williams.

“The E-Scooters will be a great addition to our city, meaning fewer cars on the road, especially on those short trips, which provides us mobility choices with a great sustainability outcome.”

Advance Rockhampton Executive Manager Mr Greg Bowden says the trial has the potential to unlock some really positive benefits for the community and the region.

“The E-Scooters have the potential to be a key economic growth tool, making connectivity easier for travel between our business and leisure precincts, with the E-Scooter and micro mobility movement increasing in popularity around the world” Mr Bowden says.

“Imagine scooting between the CBD and Stockland, CQU to Kershaw Gardens and connecting our CBD retailers, restaurants and hotels with the showgrounds and sporting precincts at Victoria Park and Browne Park.”

Rockhampton Regional Council, through the initiatives of Advance Rockhampton continue to work towards putting ‘Rocky on the Radar’ and the addition of an E-scooter fleet shows the commitment towards creating new opportunities for all residents and visitors to enjoy the region.

Permit applications will open to operators on Thursday 16th December. Following the assessment process, the successful operator will have E-Scooters up and running in Rockhampton in early 2022!
