From Gogango to Glenroy, Marmor to Morinish and Parkhurst to Port Alma residents are being urged to vote ‘yes’ to the Northern Suburbs coming home.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said the online vote and written submissions close on Monday 4 July, and urged everyone to take this chance to have a say.

“This is a defining moment for our entire region, and it will impact you wherever you live,” Mayor Williams said.

“The truth is that it already impacts you. Ninety-five percent of the residents in the Northern Suburbs work or go to school in the Rockhampton Region.

“Every day they’re using the services and facilities that your rates fund, and they want to contribute to the region they’re part of.

“It’s about more than money though. It’s about our future, and it’s about our community.

“In 20 years our region will run out of room to grow. We don’t want to leave our children and our grandchildren with a community that has nowhere to go. We want to build a region that can grow with them.

“The Northern Suburbs are our growth corridor, and more people in our region means more businesses, more jobs, and more opportunities for everyone.

“While we grow these suburbs, Livingstone will grow the coast and both of our communities will benefit.

“If it were up to residents in the Northern Suburbs, they would already be part of our region. That’s what they’ve voted for three times in the past decade.

“I’m urging you to lend your voice to those residents in the Northern Suburbs calling to come home, and lend your voice to a better future for us all.

“Don’t miss your opportunity to call for a bigger, fairer region. Vote ‘yes’ to the Northern Suburbs.”

Online voting and written submissions close at 5pm on Monday 4 July.

If returning your vote by post, please allow enough time for delivery to Brisbane by 5pm Thursday 14 July 2022.
