Planting trees

Roll up your sleeves this Sunday and help add a little more green to Gracemere’s streets at a community tree planting on Cherryfield Road!

Chair of Council’s Park Committee, Councillor Cherie Rutherford, said the tree planting event will be a great day out, and a lovely way to contribute to the community.

“Council’s Parks crews will be on hand to assist, and will be passing out silky oak (Grevillea robusta) seedlings to plant in designated spots,” said Cr Rutherford

“You and your family will be able to watch for many years to come as these native seedlings grow into stunning mature trees.

“Not only do silky oaks have a striking display of golden-orange flowers, they are remarkably drought tolerant, making them a fantastic choice for our area.

“Planting shade trees like these can make a noticeable difference to the surrounding temperature and improve the habitat for local wildlife, as well as enhance the appearance of our public spaces.

“This community tree planting will be a lovely way to spend the day with your family and neighbours, and make a positive mark on Gracemere.”
