Rockhampton Regional Council is pleased to welcome CQUniversity and Central Queensland Aboriginal Corporation for Cultural Activities (CQACCA) as key delivery partners for Councils’ Natural Resource Management (NRM) program.

Water and Environmental Sustainability Councillor Donna Kirkland says the addition of two new partners to the NRM program is a welcome one.

“With over 100 parks across the region, and an abundance of green corridors and reserves, the NRM program plays an important role in protecting our natural environment,” Cr Kirkland said.

“We rely on our community partners to help manage and improve the condition of some of our key natural assets.

“Whether it’s undertaking land management tasks, planting out new areas or regenerating bushland, extra hands make a big difference.

“Having CQU and CQACCA come on board is fantastic news as delivering these works would not be possible without the dedication of our community partners.

“CQACCA is supporting 18 keen participants who are taking part in the Plant Tour Revival project, at the Dreamtime Cultural Centre, which has been funded by the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.

“As part of this initiative, they will also be carrying out weeding and revegetation works along parts of Limestone Creek near the Dreamtime Cultural Centre.

“As another of our new NRM delivery partners, CQU will be supporting students to undertake practical on-ground works as part of their Horticulture and Conservation and Land Management courses.

“The NRM program not only benefits our community and local environment but it also supports new training and employment opportunities, so the flow on benefits are immeasurable!

“We are so looking forward to collaborating with our two new partners and welcome any new community group that wants to become involved.”
