Council urges businesses to sign up for Defence Industry Briefing

Rockhampton Regional Council is urging local businesses to attend an upcoming Industry Briefing on the Australia Singapore Military Training Initiative.

Mayor Margaret Strelow said the event would be hosted by defence and would provide an update on current activities as well as let businesses know about future tender opportunities.

“Rockhampton is well placed to capitalise on supply chain opportunities from the deal with Singapore due to our close proximity to the key training ground at Shoalwater Bay,” Mayor Strelow said.

“Council is actively working to maximise the benefits of the multi-billion dollar Australia-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and it is one of the key areas targeted under our Advance Rockhampton Economic Action Plan.

“We know we need to reinforce and build on our region’s role and capacity as a logistics and supply hub and that’s exactly why it’s important for local businesses to attend these briefings and see what opportunities exist.

“I would urge local industry to take this opportunity with both hands. Council will always advocate for our region and put our case forward for more defence activity, but it will take our whole community pulling in the right direction if we’re to get our fair share of the economic benefits,” Mayor Strelow said.

The industry briefing will be held at Korte’s Resort on the 14th December from 8am-10am. Interested businesses should contact ASMTI.local@defence.gov.au for more information.
