Two public amenities on the northside will be removed as they reach the end of their service life, with Rockhampton Regional Council advising of alternatives for community use.

The public amenities block at Pilbeam Park, Koongal and Bencke Park, Berserker will be removed in coming months.

The Nerimbera Football Club has amenities in its clubhouse that can be used during games and functions, and the public can access amenities at Rigarlsford Park, just 2.8km away.

For Bencke Park at Berserker, the nearby Stapleton Park on Bridge Street has amenities for public use.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said that while Council’s preference is to retain amenities where possible, considerations around public safety and broader priorities have required their removal.

“Council’s annual investment in maintaining our Region’s amenities is significant, and it is not considered cost-effective or feasible to upgrade these facilities given their current level of use and the cost required to upgrade them,” Cr Rutherford said.

“These amenities have deteriorated beyond reasonable repair or replacement and will need to be removed,” Cr Rutherford said.

“At times, the location of these amenities has also contributed to anti-social behaviour, which has also been a factor in our decision.”

Demolition works will be undertaken on Bencke Park in June, while Pilbeam Park amenities will be removed in July.
