Rockhampton Regional Council thanks the community who provided feedback on Rockhaven, the proposed temporary camping site at the former Music Bowl in Parkhurst designed to support people experiencing homelessness.

The community engagement process, led by independent consultant Articulous, closed on Monday 17 November and gathered input from people with lived experience of homelessness, service providers, outreach organisations, neighbours, and the wider community.

Planning and Regulation Councillor Grant Mathers said the feedback will play a vital role in shaping Council’s next steps.

“We are grateful to everyone who shared their views on Rockhaven,” Cr Mathers said.

“The insights provided highlight the role the community believes Council should play in supporting people experiencing homelessness and will guide Council’s decision on the suitability of the Music Bowl site and inform how Rockhaven could operate effectively, if it proceeds.”

Council officers are now preparing a comprehensive report, which will be presented to Council in January 2026.

“We had hoped to bring a report back sooner, but with 647 survey responses alone, our officers need additional time to ensure all feedback is accurately captured,” Cr Mathers said.

“This is a complex issue, and it’s encouraging to see so many people contribute their perspectives. Council will carefully consider all feedback as we move forward.”

Council will continue to keep the community updated as the Rockhaven proposal progresses. The upcoming report will summarise the feedback received and outline recommendations for future planning.
