Council staff represent at Seniors Expo

Rockhampton Regional Council has congratulated organisers of the Seniors Expo which was held last week at the Frenchville Sports Club.

Communities and Heritage Councillor, Drew Wickerson, said the event was a success, and one Council was incredibly happy to join. 

“The expo is held by the Department of Seniors, Disability Services and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, and aims to make Queensland a more accessible and age-friendly place for everyone,” Cr Wickerson said.

“Organisers invited Council, along with other government representatives and local organisations to collaborate and be stallholders on the day.

“Our Council offers some wonderful services so I was really happy that these were on show at such an important event for our older community members.

“Council’s Home Assist department, in particular, plays such a big role to the seniors in our community and is a great resource for them. 

“We are lucky enough to be one of the only Council’s in the region that offers this service, which helps clients to stay and manage in their own homes longer without needing to go into care homes thanks to the support of State and Federal funding.

“At the Council stall, our CQ Home Assist staff were able to not only answer questions and provide advice, but also show attendees household modifications which can be customised and installed to meet each client’s needs, so things such as chair and bed raisers, ramps, hand held showers, hand rails etc. 

“The great news is we not only deliver the program for people in the Rockhampton local government area, but also to Gladstone, Central Highlands, Livingstone and Banana Shires.

“The Seniors Expos are a great opportunity to reach a diverse range of older people and provide them with tips on staying safe and connected, which is so important for our community especially in this current climate.”
