Rockhampton Regional Council today congratulated 101.5 Triple M on their Fire in the Sky plans after it was confirmed the fireworks on New Year’s Eve would be launched simultaneously from two separate locations, some from the riverbank and some from a barge on the river itself. Rockhampton Region Mayor, Margaret Strelow, said the radio station’s plans would create a remarkable spectacle above the Fitzroy River.

“It is just fantastic to see private enterprise in our Region stepping up and offering such exciting and free events to our residents,” said Mayor Strelow.

“The fact that Triple M have confirmed the fireworks in their Fire in the Sky event will be launched from both the riverbank and from the river itself means bringing in the New Year will be even more special for our community.

“The evening promises to be spectacular and will be testament to what can be achieved when Council and businesses work together.”

Southern Cross Austereo CQ General Manager Matthew Wex said Triple M CQ was incredibly excited to be bringing Fire in the Sky back to the people of Rockhampton in such a fashion.

"Launching the fireworks from both the banks and a barge promises to create a brilliant show above the mighty Fitzroy.

“Fire in the Sky was so well loved, and we are very proud to be bringing it back for the residents of – and visitors to – the Rockhampton Region on New Year’s Eve.”

There will be two fireworks displays, one at 7pm and one at midnight. Council has also organised for amusements, food vendors and jumping castles to be located on Quay Street from 5pm to 10pm.
