Rockhampton Regional Council has released a short video today, celebrating some of the highlights which have made this year such a good one.

Mayor Margaret Strelow said 2018 had been a truly special year.

“2018 has been a fantastic year for the Rockhampton Region.

“When it comes to making the place we live even better we have completed and opened some wonderful big ticket projects like the Riverside Precinct, Kershaw Gardens, Mount Morgan Streetscape and the Mount Archer canopy boardwalk.

“The newly fitted out Smart Hub goes from strength to strength, and it’s a pleasure to see so many families enjoying the new mountain biking trails at First Turkey.

“The less ‘exciting’ projects, like the Civil Infrastructure Capital Program and the Yaamba Rd Trunk Main Relocation might not make the headlines, but they definitely make a difference.

“Events wise we hosted a record breaking River Festival, welcomed people from around the world for Beef Australia, saw some incredible costumes at CapriCon, and learned how to make our gardens beautiful and to live more sustainably at Tropicana.

“We also welcomed a wonderful new member of the family - the arrival of baby Capri has drawn thousands of people to Rockhampton Zoo.

“There has been exciting commitments for the future too. We secured both state and federal funding for the South Rockhampton Flood Levee which will protect businesses, homes, and key infrastructure. Adani announced it was ready to start building, bringing hundreds of jobs to our region.

“Rookwood, the Third Bridge, and our beautiful new Art Gallery all received support that take them one step closer to reality, meaning we can continue to look forward to a bright future.

“Even during the difficult times, we have come together: I have seen no better example of our spirit and resolve than the resilience shown during last month’s bushfire event.

“From everyone at Council, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
