Rockhampton Regional Council is making progress on the Parkhurst Industrial Area Upgrade with the project tracking on time.

This project involves upgrading the three intersections at McLaughlin, Wade, and Johnson Streets, with improvements to road width, drainage, street lighting, and pavement strength.

These upgrades will be carried out in three phases and subsequent stages:

  • Phase 1 – McLaughlin Street (Underway)
    • Stage 1 (November 2023 to March 2024) – Completed
    • Stage 2 (March 2024 to June 2024) – Underway
    • Stage 3 (June 2024 to August 2024) – Upcoming
  • Phase 2 – Wade Street (Upcoming)
  • Phase 3 – Johnson Street (Upcoming)

The Johnson Street and McLaughlin Street Intersection will reopen to two-way traffic on Wednesday 20 March. Stage two will commence on Monday 18 March, with an expected completion date in June 2024, subject to weather and ground conditions.

During stage two, McLaughlin Street will be closed from Wade Street to Bush Crescent. Detours and traffic control measures will be in place, ensuring continued access for businesses in the affected area.

These works will deliver various improvements, including minor drainage enhancements, the widening of McLaughlin Street, construction of concrete kerbs and intersection enhancements to facilitate the safe manoeuvring of heavy vehicles through key intersections.

As well as these road improvements, the project includes the installation of a new sewer main along McLaughlin Street. This infrastructure upgrade addresses the growing needs of the community as part of the Rockhampton Regional Council’s Capital Works program.

Motorists are urged to be mindful of detours, especially in areas where trucks are involved.

The project received funding contributions from the Australian Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program (HVSPP) and Rockhampton Regional Council.
