Council Backs 2024 Capricorn Food and Wine Festival
Published on 27 August 2024
Rockhampton Regional Council is again supporting the annual Capricorn Food and Wine Festival, reinforcing the region's position as a premier destination for food and wine enthusiasts.
The festival, a key event in Rockhampton's 2024 Major Events calendar, is expected to attract thousands of visitors, including from around the state, and contributing significantly to the local economy and tourism sector.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said Council's support for the Festival aligns with the region's Economic Development Strategy, which identifies event tourism as a key growth area.
"The Capricorn Food and Wine Festival is a prime example of how we're cementing Rockhampton as a must-visit destination in Queensland," Mayor Williams said.
"This celebration of food, hospitality, and music not only showcases our region's culinary talent and produce but also drives economic activity and supports our local businesses."
The festival consists of two parts: Signature Events and the Festival Grounds. The Festival Grounds, activated on the riverfront, offer a wide variety of locally grown produce prepared by pop-up restaurants, along with tastings of artisanal beverages guided by winemakers, brewers, and producers. Cooking demonstrations and live music round out the entertainment.
Over 15 Signature Events will be hosted across the region, including degustations, wine masterclasses, cooking demonstrations, and cocktail parties. Highlight events include Opening Night with Birds of Tokyo, and "Saturday Night Fever" featuring The Potbelleez.
Advance Rockhampton Tourism and Events Manager Zac Garven highlighted the importance of major events like the Capricorn Food and Wine Festival in bolstering the region's visitor economy.
"This festival is a perfect showcase of our region's best assets and attractions," Mr Garven said.
"It not only attracts visitors but also provides an excellent platform for our local producers and hospitality businesses to shine."
Callan Buchholtz, Festival Organiser at Capricorn Events, emphasised the vital role of community support in the festival's success.
"The support from Council, sponsors, and the local community is absolutely crucial to the Capricorn Food and Wine Festival," Mr Buchholtz said.
"Partnerships not only help us deliver a top-class event, but also demonstrate the region's commitment to celebrating and promoting events and the food and beverage industry. This collaborative effort is what makes our festival truly special and keeps visitors coming back year after year."
The Capricorn Food and Wine Festival will take place 6-7 September 2024. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit capricornevents.au/capricorn-food-and-wine-festival
