Rockhampton Regional Council is inviting the community to have their say on the future of South Gracemere as part of the development of the South Gracemere Local Area Plan.

Over the past two decades, South Gracemere has experienced significant change, with ongoing urban growth and population increases highlighting the need for a long-term framework to help guide the area’s future.

The Local Area Plan will establish a clear vision for the South Gracemere area, extending from Breakspear Street to the intersection of Cherryfield Road and Cavell Road, guiding future development, infrastructure and community spaces.

Planning and Regulation Councillor Grant Mathers said community feedback would play an important role in shaping the future of Gracemere.

“As the area continues to grow, it’s important we plan carefully so the community continues to benefit, both now and into the future,” Cr Mathers said.

“This work will help guide how the area grows, while also considering the design, quality and liveability of new neighbourhoods and community spaces.

“We want to hear directly from the community about what matters most to them, whether that’s parks and recreation spaces, transport connections, housing, community infrastructure or protecting the character of the area.

“Community input will help ensure the plan reflects local values, aspirations and priorities as South Gracemere continues to evolve.”

Divisional Councillor Edward Oram encouraged residents, businesses and community groups to get involved in the consultation process.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the community to help shape the future of Gracemere and have a direct say in how the area grows over the coming years,” Cr Oram said.

“South Gracemere is an important and fast-growing part of our region, and local knowledge is invaluable in helping identify what is working well and where improvements are needed.

“The Local Area Plan will also consider important land use matters including the future role of the Gracemere Waste Facility, and options for activity centres, sporting and recreation facilities, parks and other community infrastructure.

“I encourage everyone to complete the survey online or come along to one of the pop-up information stalls to speak with the project team and share their ideas.”

As part of the preliminary information gathering stage of the project, community members can get involved by completing the online survey and interactive map via Council’s Engage page before 10 July 2026: https://engage.rockhamptonregion.qld.gov.au/growing-south-gracemere

Community pop-up information stalls will also be held throughout June at a range of locations across Gracemere and Rockhampton.

The South Gracemere Local Area Plan is funded with the support of the Queensland Government’s Scheme Supply Fund in association with Rockhampton Regional Council.
