Head to the Southside Library this Friday, 8 March, to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) with award-winning writer Dr Robyn Sheahan-Bright.

Councillor Rose Swadling, Chair of Council’s Community Services Committee, said that events like this offer an important opportunity to reflect on advancements made towards gender equality.

“International Women’s Day is celebrated by people around the world on 8 March. It is a day to celebrate women’s achievements, recognise how things have changed, and reflect on the progress that still has to be made,” said Cr Swadling.

The theme for IWD 2019 is #BalanceforBetter, which is a call to move toward a more gender-balanced world.

“We are so glad that Dr Robyn Sheahon-Bright could join us at this event to speak on the 2019 theme from a literary perspective,” said Cr Swadling.

“Dr Sheahon-Bright is a widely published author as well as editor and consultant, and has won many prestigious awards. She was also the first Executive Director of the Queensland Writers Centre. I’m sure she will have some incredible insights.

“Come down to the library at 10.00am on Friday for a slice of cheesecake, a cuppa, and a conversation about how we can build a more balanced world.”

Bookings are essential, and can be made by contacting the library on 4936 8043. More information about the event can be found here.
