Church Park in Park Avenue will soon be home to a brand new $85,000 shade shelter, thanks to Rockhampton Regional Council.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor, Cherie Rutherford, said the structure would enhance the natural shade.

“There’s already some good shade at Church Park thanks to the trees, but there are a few gaps over the play area which this shade will fill.

“The shade – which is 24m by 7m – will be installed over the next couple of weeks.

“We are adding natural and structural shade to play parks throughout the region, but if there’s something near you that could do with more shade please get in touch to let us know.”

Divisional Councillor Donna Kirkland said the shelter would be welcomed by local families.

“We have some wonderful parks in our area but this structure will make Church Park even better, with children able to stay sun safe while playing, exploring, and imagining their way around the equipment.

“The park is closed for a couple of weeks while we get this installed, and we thank you for your patience while the work is done.”
