A local comedy duo will bring their show, Neon Dreams, to a whole new audience at an Auslan interpreted event on the Riverside this Friday night.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said the show from Jodie van de Wetering and Thomas Sayers will be a lot of fun.

“Many people in the region will already be familiar with these two comedians, and will be looking forward to the night,” said Mayor Strelow.

“With the help of interpreter Leigh McPherson, the duo will be able to reach a whole new audience of Auslan users in the Rockhampton community.

“One of the best things about comedy is the way it brings people together through shared laughs. The more people invited to join in on the joke, the better the comedy.

“We are excited to host this event as part of Council’s popular Riverside Alive program.”

Jodie van de Wetering said that the audience can expect a relaxed, hilarious night.

“Coming along to the show is a bit like having a cuppa with one of your funniest mates,” said Ms van de Wetering.

“It’s all about the banter, and laughing at the weird, ridiculous things that happen in life.

“This is the last time Tom and I will be holding this show before we start working on new material, and we are absolutely stoked to have Leigh with us.

“This is something we’ve wanted to do for a while, and the chance to make the show more enjoyable for more people is wonderful.”

Auslan interpreter Leigh McPherson said she is looking forward to the challenge of interpreting the double act.

“As an interpreter I help bridge the gap between the hearing world and the Deaf world,” said Ms McPherson.

“Interpreting shows like this not only brings another Australian language to an event, but brings together a group of people who love to laugh and enjoy life.

“I think it will be a great night of joy and entertainment for everyone who attends!”

The Neon Dreams stand-up show will take place on the Riverside from 7.00 to 8.00pm this Friday, 25 October. Head over to the Facebook event page to find out more.
