Rockhampton Regional Council has welcomed today’s announcement from the State Government that the new Rockhampton Art Gallery has been shortlisted for funding under the Building Our Regions program.
“This project has already received strong support from the Premier herself and Local Member Barry O’Rourke and today’s announcement from Minister Cameron Dick brings the new art gallery another step closer,” Mayor Margaret Strelow said.
“This is a $31.5 million project and, while the $8 million announced during the State Budget was very welcome, we still have a considerable shortfall.
“This is new money and if we are successful it will bring us that much closer to building the art gallery.
“From here, Advance Rockhampton will prepare a more detailed submission and work with the local Department of State Development branch over the next six weeks.
“We are very thankful for the support of the Premier, Minister Dick and Rockhampton MP Barry O’Rourke on this project,” Mayor Strelow said.
