Rockhampton is looking for its next Rural Ambassador, to become the face to represent Rockhampton Agricultural Show for 2023.

The Rockhampton Agricultural Show Committee is proud to bring back the Rural Ambassador Program for the 150th anniversary event; a National Competition that celebrates young people who have a genuine interest in rural and regional Australia.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said the Rural Ambassador Award highlights the importance of young people particularly in rural areas.

“We know there are thousands of young Central Queenslanders proud of their upbringings and surrounds that would do a fantastic job in representing rural and regional Australia, we just need them to sign up,” said Mayor Williams.

“The Rural Ambassador Awards provide a wonderful opportunity for Rockhampton’s youth to improve their skills in leadership, enhance their confidence and meet other young minds with the same interests.

Rockhampton Agricultural Show Committee Chair Mr Greg Bowden invites young men and women, 20 to 30 years of age to nominate for the Rural Ambassador Awards. We are looking for people who have a strong commitment to the region and rural industries and an involvement and passion for the progress of our region and the Agricultural Show movement.

“These awards seek young people who symbolise the rural meet city spirit - people with vitality who are forward thinking and with a passion for the land and local agricultural shows,” said Mr Bowden.

“We know the youth in our region have so much to offer and invite them to come along for an information session at 11am on Saturday 25 March at Stockland Rockhampton to find out more.

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Aged between 20 to 30, have a strong commitment to the rural industries and an involvement and passion for the Agricultural Show movement.
  2. Are actively engaged in their local show, possess knowledge of local and national rural matters, and have a strong connection to agriculture.
