Applications for Council’s Trainee and Apprenticeship Program to open
Published on 30 July 2026
Applications open tomorrow for Rockhampton Regional Council’s 2027 Trainee and Apprenticeship Program, with opportunities across business administration, civil operations, horticulture and live production.
Chief Executive Officer Evan Pardon said the program was an opportunity for school leavers to make an impact in their community while building their careers.
“A career with Rockhampton Regional Council is very rewarding because work we do helps make our community a better place,” Mr Pardon said.
“The Trainee and Apprentice Program allows school leavers to learn valuable skills, receive hands-on training and work in a team environment, all while getting paid.
“Council has a very diverse workforce, and there are many career pathways within the organisation.
“We have employees who started their careers through this very program and have now been with Council for more than 10 or even 15 years.”
Debra Donnan began a gardening traineeship through Council’s 2026 Traineeship Program and encouraged school leavers to get their applications in.
“I applied for the traineeship because Council has a good reputation for looking after its workers,” Ms Donnan said.
“My traineeship experience has helped me develop many valuable skills, as well as learn how to work within a team. I also know I can ask questions if I am unsure about something without feeling embarrassed.
“It’s a chance to invest in your future while giving back to your community.
“Once you have completed a traineeship or apprenticeship, there are still plenty of opportunities to add to your skill set through Council.”
The 2027 program includes seven business administration traineeships, including positions at Rockhampton Airport, Open Spaces and Recreation, Fitzroy River Water, and Waste and Recycling, among others.
There are also Civil Construction, Live Production (Pilbeam Theatre), and Horticulture/Gardener trainee roles, as well as Electrician and Fitter and Turner apprenticeships.
Applications for the 2027 Trainee and Apprenticeship Program open today, Friday, 31 July 2026, and close on Monday, 31 August 2026.
Interested applicants are encouraged to attend the Apprentice and Trainee Program Information Session on Wednesday, 12 August, at City Hall, 232 Bolsover Street, Rockhampton.
The session will run from 3pm to 5.30pm, and attendees are welcome to drop in at any time to speak with Council officers about the program and the range of traineeships available across different departments.
