The festive season is set to take over both East and Quay Streets next Saturday 1 December with the 2018 annual CBD Christmas Fair!

Starting at 5pm, East Street will be filled with market stalls, food vendors, live entertainment and plenty of activities for the kids including face painting and a visit from the animals of Cooberrie Park.

Then, from 7.30pm, families will have a chance to visit Santa and sing along to everyone’s favourite Christmas Carols before watching the lighting of the tree at 8pm in its new location on Quay Street, opposite Customs House.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said Quay Street’s iconic façade lighting display is set to create a spectacular sight, making the CBD the Region’s favourite Christmas destination.

“The annual CBD fair is always one of the most popular Christmas events on the calendar, and when you think of coming together as a community to celebrate there really is no better place than in the heart of the city,” Mayor Strelow said.

“This year we are extending the festivities through to Quay Street where our iconic buildings will be aglow with the colours of Christmas and our beautiful Customs House will also be decorated.

“In the past our tree has been placed in the roundabout on Denham and East Streets, and this year it will be erected opposite Customs House making it easily accessible for families to capture and share some stunning Christmas pictures of our city.

“The Christmas Fair is always a fantastic tradition to kick off the holiday season, and it’s also a time to remember how important it is to support our local family owned and run businesses that rely heavily on the Christmas trade.”

Rockhampton Regional Council has committed to supporting the CBD Christmas Fair with an annual grant of $20,000 over three years. The free community event is also supported by East Street Traders and the RACQ Helicopter Rescue Service.
