Advance Rockhampton has launched a new major events campaign attracting more drive and fly visitation to the region in 2022.

The campaign includes a 2022 major events calendar and promotional video that highlights events like Rockynats, Capricorn Food & Wine Festival, Pop Up Polo, PBR Rockhampton Invitational and CapriCon, putting Rockhampton back on the map as the events epicentre of Central Queensland.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said it’s great to see our major events calendar in full swing again after almost two years of uncertainty.

“Events not only evoke a sense of pride amongst our local community but also attract visitors to our region from far and wide”, Mayor Williams said.

“This new campaign is so exciting and the promotional video really highlights the number of fantastic major events our city hosts each year, some even rivalling those of capital cities.

“Now is the perfect time for locals to invite their friends and relatives to Rockhampton and immerse themselves in entertainment, adrenaline and culture while exploring our fantastic tourism experiences.

“From burnouts to pop culture to bull riding to food and wine, there’s something for everyone on Rockhampton’s 2022 major events calendar”.

Advance Rockhampton Executive Manager Greg Bowden said major events are an important pillar in Rockhampton’s visitor economy.

“Advance Rockhampton continues to build on Tourism and Events Queensland Events Strategy 2025 that explores the enormous economic and social value for local communities that hosting events can generate”, Mr Bowden said.

“With Rare Spares Rockynats 01 generating $4.76 million in direct and incremental expenditure for the region alone, we know that major events bring economic benefits to our region, with visitors spending money on accommodation, in our cafes and restaurants, on event tickets, on tourist attractions and of course in our local businesses.

“This new and exciting campaign will also help attract visitation to the region in shoulder periods.

“In some cases, events can be the deciding factor when choosing a destination to travel to so it’s important we continue putting Rocky on the radar a city that is alive with events all year round”.

Advance Rockhampton’s major events promotional video was shot over the course of six months in 2021, using a local videographer and local talent.

The new campaign will roll out over the coming weeks across various digital platforms.
