Happy Birthday Play School: Celebrating 50 Years
5 November 2017 – 28 January 2018
Big Ted, Little Ted, Humpty and Jemima are coming to Rockhampton Art Gallery as part of a fun-filled exhibition to celebrate Play School’s 50th birthday!
The exhibition takes a look behind the scenes and celebrates some of Play School’s regular features – telling the time with the Rocket and Flower clocks and exploring the outside world through the arch, round and square windows. Showcasing the many familiar toys, props, and costumes, the extensive display will also showcase audio and video clips of past programs.
“This exhibition offers a window on the changing experience of Australian childhood and allows adults the chance to indulge in a little nostalgia, while children wonder at the magic that the program still delivers to them on a daily basis,” said National Museum senior curator, Sophie Jensen.
Happy Birthday Play School: Celebrating 50 years is an exhibition developed by the National Museum of Australia (NMA) in Canberra in collaboration with the ABC which honours Australia’s longest-running children’s television program and its special place in peoples’ hearts.
