Draft: A collection of imperfect faces, with unfinished stories
11 November 2017 – 7 January 2018
Exhibition Draft: a collection of imperfect faces, with unfinished stories by Emma Ward explores the multiplicity and depth of human connection, with focus drawn to notions of time and memory. Comprising 100 portraits of strangers and significant others, the exhibition reveals shared moments between the artist and sitter.
‘So much can be told as we stare into a face. It’s a human connection, a recognition, a simple glance that triggers a plethora of sensory responses. To paint a face, and hold that energy, that life, and capture it in a sheet of paper, if only for a moment is fragile.’ – Artist Emma Ward
Indicating a departure from previous interests the exhibition uncovers new layers to Ward’s practice. Emma Ward is a contemporary painter living and working in Rockhampton.
